Walt Bassett is a 1975 East High School graduate. Following high school he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Construction Management from Colorado State University, after which he joined his family construction business. His career actually started in the construction trade in 1972, when, still in high school, he worked in the field as a laborer and equipment operator.
His 50 years of experience in the construction field have afforded him a broad range of experience in fast track, schedule driven and multi-phased projects totaling over $1.5 billion.
In 1990, he and his wife Kathie purchased Bassett Construction Co. from his parents Walt, Sr. and Ellen Bassett. As President/Safety Officer/Project Principal since 1990, Walt is involved in all aspects of the company including office administration, safety, project development and procurement, and overall management of all construction projects. He works closely with each construction team throughout the entire project from planning stages to project close out, further ensuring the project is completed within budget, on time and with excellence of construction.
Throughout his career, Walt has been involved in numerous professional affiliations. Notable among a long list are: Past President of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce; Past President of the Rotary Club of Pueblo #43; and Past Assistant Governor of the Rotary District #5473.
