Sandy Gecewicz, a Class of 1970 honor student, was captain of the Aquila's performance dance team and participated in the first fully sanctioned sports teams in gymnastics and tennis. She was the first East female athlete to receive a varsity letter in Girls Tennis.
Ms. Gecewicz was Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Instruction in Pueblo School District No. 60. She has received many awards during her career as an educator. Her two most prestigious awards were in 1994, when she was named Principal of the Year by the NASSSP/McDonald's Corporation, and in 2002, when she received a Fulbright Memorial Scholarship to study in Japan.
