Mark Horton, valedictorian for the East Class of 1983 attended the University of Colorado and later studied at the Kennedy Graduate School at Havard.

He accepted a position as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC. Working as an advisor to the former Soviet Republic of Moldova, Horton who was fluent in both Russian and Romanian used his advanced language skills to conduct business meetings with local leaders without the use of an interpreter.
